Tecolote Canyon Clairemont is in Clairemont San Diego
Tecolote Canyon is a great natural treasure. It weaves through the center of the Clairemont Mesa community. The park begins near the North Clairemont Recreation Center and ends near Tecolote Community Park.
I hike this lovely trail several times a week. It’s walking distance from my home which is near the Clairemont Drive and Balboa Ave trail head. The canyon helps me unwind, reflect and process my day. To be in nature and really connect with all the sounds helps reset my energy levels. Wild flowers and many unique shrubs cover the hillsides. There is a little river that runs through Tecolote Canyon that people frequent.
Things to be aware of while hiking Tecolote Canyon:
• Dogs should be placed on leashes
• Coyotes live within the canyon but are rarely see them
• The area north of Balboa can have an unpleasant odor
• Take a buddy when jogging at night
